The anti-choice movement has never really been about "saving babies" or "protecting women". At the very heart of their beliefs, motivations, and discourse has been distrust and disrespect towards women. It is one of the few places in society where blatant misogyny is still celebrated. This becomes very apparent when looking at the language used by the anti-choice movement in comparison to the pro-choice movement. Below are two
Wordle images - one from an anti-choice site, the other from a pro-choice site. For those of you who are not familiar with Wordle, it is an online program which takes text from web pages and displays the most commonly used words in an artistic way. The bigger the word, the more often it was used on the website. Look at the results:
This first image was generated from the anti-choice website
LifeBeginsAtConception
This second image was generated from the pro-choice website
AbortionClinicDays
The results speak for themselves.
Wow, amazing comparison. The two clouds of words really make a point that would take much longer to explain via manual textual analysis. This was simple yet effective, really great idea!
ReplyDeleteIf that's the best you can do, the future for the Prolife movement looks brighter than ever. Real women have babies. Sucks to be you.
ReplyDeleteI wont even begin on the hypocrisy of self-proclaimed Saint being armoured...
ReplyDeleteHungry little troll! Sadly, I'll save my troll feed for one from a brighter bunch.
Must have been a real stretch to find the word abortion on a prolife blog. Mental midgets.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that you call someone a 'mental midget' because you failed to fully grasp the concept of a very well made point. To help you along a bit, I will suggest the following:
ReplyDelete-yes both have the word abortion, congrats, you made a discovery that any 6 year old who can read would make... naturally both sites address the issue of abortion, so it's a given that they were commonly used
-the real point was what different between the two. I'd let you try and figure it out for yourself, but you'll likely just fail to do so and then insult everyone again.. so follow along. On one side, we have 'God, life, baby, Jesus, Murder, Death, Die...' on the other some commonly occurring themes include 'Women' (imagine that) 'life, care, decisions, ect'
Granted, it is Wordle and therefor it leaves us without the context, but the reoccurring themes, as the blog poster states do 'speak for themselves'
And I found it typical that you called me a troll as soon as you realized I'm against abortion. Feminists care so much for women, as long as those women agree with them. If not, it's time to start the name-calling and scorn-heaping. Lame. See ya.
ReplyDeleteNo one is forcing women to have abortions Armoured Saint. If you don't agree with it, then don't have one. But don't you DARE try to stop anyone else from having one.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't call yourself pro-life when you clearly don't give a rat's ass about WOMEN's lives.
Ms. Kitton, don't talk like a low-life.
ReplyDeleteJohn Dunkle - don't be one
ReplyDeletedon't have one. But don't you DARE try to stop anyone else from having one.

So where does life begin to be valued? This question is above any feelings on either side. For example, if life is valued the moment it is made, then despite a woman's feelings toward an unwanted child, that woman has no right to take a life. However, if life begins when a child is delivered, than abortion would be considered ethical. The problem lies in this: we are selfish human beings that cater to our own wants than others. These posts show no logic and both just blast either side. It would be nice if pro-life people would adopt the babies of those women who rather get an abortion and it would be nice if the pro-choice people read the Bible and how it speaks about how each life is precious in the mind of God before it is even created. And if we all loved each other the way God loves us despite our evil words and fighting, how much better a place would this be.
ReplyDeletePassionate Provider! Unlike many of those commenters above me, I absolutely love your blog! I'm sorry that you haven't written in a while. I have just started a blog with intentions similar to yours (http://prochoicehowtocrossariver.blogspot.com/), but yours puts mine to shame! Thank you for what you do; if I ever get into medical school, I hope to be an abortion provider some day, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the words of encouragement Suze. I have been so busy in residency lately and I haven't had time to write on my blog. Hopefully soon though.
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong. I am pro life because it hurts me to know that innocent unborn babies are being killed for the sake of convenience. I know women who have had abortions and the regret and sadness they feel throughoutbtheir life is far worse than the responsibility they would have had to accept as a mother.
ReplyDeleteIt is so barbaric and inhuman. We should be supporting these women who find themselves scared and pregnant rather than encouraging them to kill the life inside their womb.
I really hope and pray that you become aware of how horrible your actions are and stop aiding in the destruction of innocent unborn children and the mothers who bare the burden of immense regret for the rest of their lives
